As a pluralistic fine artist and photographer, I split my creative time equally between the lens and the canvas. Rather than specializing in just one medium, my daily work involves a rigorous, active mix of fine art photography, classical oil painting, and large-format pastels. While balancing multiple demanding disciplines requires immense effort, this versatility allows me to bring a unique, interconnected perspective to every project I touch.
My roots in large-scale pastel paintings began during my time in Hutchinson, Minnesota, and have continued to evolve since moving to Fergus Falls in 2006. My early large-scale surrealist work garnered significant regional attention; in 2006, a regional newspaper reporter traveled directly to Dassel, MN, to interview art collector Cindy Miller about the massive, vibrant custom pastel landscape I created for her collection.
Today, I continue to push the boundaries of heavy-pigment pastels and oil paints. You can frequently find me painting live on my easel at the Fergus Falls Farmers Market, connecting directly with the community and showcasing the raw, tactile process behind these vibrant, large-scale works.
This expansive, panoramic pastel exploration captures a fluid symphony of color and motion, showcasing the intense pigment depth achievable through heavy hand-blending on large-format canvas.
